New Year’s Resolutions to Become a Better Driver

become a better driver

It’s easy to form bad driving habits, whether you drive all-day every-day or just a few times a week. With the coming of the New Year, why not resolve to become a better driver in 2019?

Here are a few tips from the staff at Sunnyside Chevrolet to help you become a better driver.

Keep up with regular maintenance

From forgotten oil changes to streaky wiper blades, it’s easy to forget to complete simple vehicle maintenance tasks. Resolve to keep up with your vehicle’s suggested service schedule in 2019.

Use your signals

For one reason or another, not using turn signals to indicate a lane change is a habit that a lot of drivers tend to pick up over time. If you want to be a safer and more considerate driver this year, resolve to use your turn signals every single time you change lanes, whether it’s rush hour or after hours.

Say no to speeding

Keep on cruising in the New Year, but do so at or near the speed limit. Speeding is a dangerous habit and, if you so happen to get clocked by a hidden police officer, an expensive one. It also reduces your reaction time, which can have consequences far greater than cash. Resolve to stop speeding in 2019; instead, try leaving earlier to give yourself more time to get to your destination.

If one of your goals for the New Year is to get behind the wheel of a new ride, stop into Sunnyside Chevrolet and we’ll let you try out the best of what we’ve got on the lot.

Chevrolet Launches Two New Colorado Special Edition Trucks

New Colorado Special Edition

To celebrate the four-year anniversary of the Chevrolet Colorado’s return to the market, Chevy in November announced that it is bringing two new Colorado Special Edition trucks to the market this year: the off-road-rugged Colorado Z71 Trail Runner and the street-performance-minded Colorado RST.

“The success of Colorado helped reignite the midsize truck segment, which increased 27 percent from 2015 to 2017,” said Sandor Piszar, director of Marketing for Chevrolet Trucks. “It changed what customers expected from a midsize truck, brought new customers to Chevrolet and has inspired competitors to follow Chevy’s lead.”

Chevrolet has sold 428,792 Colorado pickups in the United States from November 2015 to October 2018, and the addition of the new special editions should only serve to increase that number. Both trucks feature the CHEVROLET flow-through grille first seen on the Colorado ZR2 Bison and most recently added to the 2020 Silverado Heavy Duty.

The Z71 Trail Runner builds upon the Z71 off-road package, adding the ZR2 underbody protection, aluminum front and mid skid plates, and Goodyear® Duratrac tires. The Colorado RST features distinctive black exterior elements including a black bowtie badge on the tailgate, low-gloss black-finished 20-inch wheels and black beltline and side body moldings.

5 Thanksgiving Travel Tips to Make the Drive Easier

Thanksgiving travel tips

Preparing for a family trip during this holiday season? These Thanksgiving travel tips will make the car ride as painless as possible and ensure that everyone gets to grandma’s house in good spirits.

Avoid High-Traffic Times

Cities across the U.S. see the worst traffic on Tuesdays and Wednesdays near rush hour, which makes them the worst days and times to leave out for a Thanksgiving-day excursion. Consider extending your vacation and showing up a few days earlier.

Fill Up Your Tank

This seems obvious, but the best way to avoid delays and keep things running smooth is to make sure your vehicle is filled up before you depart. Not having to stop for gas along the way is a bigtime difference-maker.

Be Prepared, but Travel Light

When it comes to packing your bags, it’s important to have a checklist while also not packing anything you don’t need. You should bring chargers, entertainment, and snacks for the car ride, and maybe only one extra outfit.

Plan Your Route

Check a map, online or off, so that you have a good idea of where you’re going. Plan for things like toll booths and bathroom breaks, too.

Don’t Drive Home on Sunday

People tend to spend the weekend with their family and then drive home the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, that means roads are often congested on Sunday. If you can, try to schedule the drive back on a different day.

From all of us here at Sunnyside Chevrolet, we hope you and yours have a happy Thanksgiving!

Chevrolet Corvette and Volt are Most American Cars

most American cars

Just because a car is made by an American brand doesn’t automatically mean it was made here in the United States. If you are looking for a truly American-made car, the Kogod Made in America Index can help you narrow down the field. Not surprisingly, once you look, you’ll find Chevrolet smack dab in the center.

Each year, this index evaluates the domestic content of new vehicles for sale in the United States to see which models have the highest percentage of American parts and labor. This year, both the Chevrolet Corvette and Volt were found to be two of the most American cars available today. At the top of the pack is the Chevy Corvette, which received a score of 83.5 out of a possible 100. The innovative plug-in hybrid Chevy Volt came away with a score of 83.0.

The Kogod index uses seven criteria to score vehicles and determine how much each model contributes to the U.S. economy. They include the following:

  • Profit margin
  • Research and development
  • Labor
  • Transmission
  • Inventory, capital, and other expenses
  • Engine
  • Body, chassis, and electrical components

Not only are Chevrolets American-made, but they’re also perfect examples of the American tradition of embracing the freedom of the open road. To experience that freedom for yourself, stop into Sunnyside Chevrolet and take a Chevy for a test drive.

The Best Road Trip Apps for your Summer Adventure

road trip apps

Summer is finally here, and that means it’s time for that road trip you’ve been planning all year. Before you head out, though, download these great road trip apps and get ready to tackle the road like never before.

Navigating with a paper map might have its charms, but using a navigation app like Waze is the best way to find the quickest routes and to avoid traffic. The best thing about Waze is that other drivers update it in real time so you’ll know right away about any unexpected delays or detours.

Gas Buddy

GasBuddy is a road trip essential because it’s completely free and saves you money every time you use it. No matter where in the country you are, GasBuddy tracks your current location as find the cheapest gas prices near you so you don’t have to overpay at the pump, even far from home.

Highway driving might be convenient, but it can be difficult to know what you’re passing along the way. iExit, a free to use app for Android and iOS, tracks amenities at upcoming highway exits, making it easier to find food, lodging, and other points of interest you might otherwise miss.

While not specifically a driving app, Audible can transform even the most boring stretches of the road into a memorable time. With such a large collection of audiobooks, you’re sure to find something everyone will enjoy listening to during your next road trip.

To take a road trip, you need to have a car that’s in great shape; we recommend a full inspection before you head out of town. Visit us at Sunnyside Chevrolet and our service department will give your vehicle a thorough checkup to make sure it’s in the best possible condition.

Take the Ultimate Road Trip with Chevrolet

Ultimate Road Trip

Spring is here, which means it is the perfect time for a road trip. For many families, travelling to new destinations is one of the things they want to do the most during the warmer months. If you are planning any vacations for this spring or summer, consider this ultimate road trip map put together by Chevrolet and data scientist Randy Olson.

The trip makes 48 stops, one in each of the 48 contiguous states, for a cross-country trek line no other. Olson used his data crunching skills to create the optimal path that would cross each state with very little back-tracking.

“This map is designed so road trippers can start anywhere and drive as much or as little as they like,” said Olson. “Across the U.S., people can create their perfect route, whether staying close to home or embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime 48-state journey.”

If you were to follow this path exactly, you would spend about 214.56 hours driving (about nine days) and would add 13,389 miles to your odometer. Starting in Ohio takes you to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum in Cleveland. From there, you can take in the Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan, The Bean at Millennium Park in Chicago, the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, and you are just getting started.

Find your next road trip vehicle at Sunnyside Chevrolet. We have a large selection of sedans, SUVs, and more to accommodate your family’s needs. Give us a call or stop by to schedule a test drive.
